History of DanversCARES

DanversCARES (formerly known as Community that Cares) started in the mid 1990’s as a school-based health advisory committee. The chairperson had the vision to invite community partners to the table to support school based-health and physical education efforts.

Since then, the group has evolved into a formal community-based coalition with 12 representatives from various parts of Danvers. We have developed and set a vision, mission, and plan of action. Central to our philosophy is the principle that coalitions are built on community involvement and designed to address local needs. This is done through collaborative dialogue, prioritizing concerns, and seeking partners and resources to support the work. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone has something to contribute.

In 2009, DanversCARES received two grants that allowed us to expand our substance abuse prevention efforts, staffing, and membership.

DanversCARES is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Underage Drinking Prevention Grant, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s Drug Free Communities Grant.
